For Long Thinning Hair

the permanent hair thinning solution you’ve been searching for. Long hair? SMP is still for you!

A non-surgical solution for fuller, thicker-looking hair

Scalp Micropigmentation for Long Thinning Hair in Boston is an effective option for men and women who want to reduce scalp visibility and create the appearance of fuller, denser hair without surgery. While scalp micropigmentation is often associated with shaved or closely cropped hairstyles, it can also be highly effective for clients with longer hair experiencing noticeable thinning.

At Scalp Designs, we work with clients throughout Greater Boston who want a natural-looking solution for thinning hair. Many of our long-hair clients choose scalp micropigmentation to reduce the contrast between the hair and scalp, especially in areas where thinning makes scalp visibility more noticeable.

If you have long, thinning hair, scalp micropigmentation can help fill in visible gaps between the hairs and create the appearance of fuller, healthier, more dense hair. Regardless of the cause or extent of your hair loss, scalp micropigmentation is one of the most effective non-surgical options for improving the appearance of thinning hair and restoring confidence.

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation for Long Hair?

Scalp Micropigmentation for long hair in Boston is a non-surgical treatment designed to reduce scalp visibility and create the appearance of fuller, denser hair for men and women experiencing thinning. Using detailed pigment impressions placed strategically in thinning areas, SMP can help fill in visible gaps, improve the look of density, and create the appearance of healthier, thicker hair.

For many clients in Boston and throughout Greater Boston, long-hair scalp micropigmentation offers an effective way to improve the appearance of thinning hair while maintaining their current hairstyle. The result is a more natural, fuller-looking appearance and greater confidence.

How Does SMP Work for Long Hair?

Scalp Micropigmentation for long hair is an effective option for men and women throughout Greater Boston who are dealing with diffuse thinning, visible scalp areas, bald patches, or receding hairlines but want to keep their existing hairstyle rather than shave their head.

At Scalp Designs, long-hair SMP is performed by strategically placing detailed pigment impressions into thinning areas of the scalp, between existing hairs. These impressions are designed to reduce the contrast between the hair and scalp, helping camouflage visible thinning and create the appearance of thicker, fuller, more dense hair.

The treatment is completed in sections and customized based on the pattern and severity of hair loss. By adding thousands of small pigment impressions to the areas where scalp visibility is most noticeable, SMP creates a soft shadowing effect that blends naturally with your existing hair and improves the overall look of density.

For clients in Boston, Milton, Quincy, Dorchester, South Boston, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roxbury, and throughout Greater Boston, long-hair scalp micropigmentation offers a non-surgical, low-maintenance way to improve the appearance of thinning hair with results that are visible immediately.

Find a Lasting Solution for Hair Loss and Thinning

Scalp Designs is no stranger to men and women who are suffering from hair loss or thinning. Our scalp micropigmentation for long hair answers various related concerns.

Camouflage Bald Patches

Bald spots can happen for a number of reasons, the most common being male pattern baldness, an inevitable hair loss process that naturally occurs as men age. Scalp Micropigmentation can be applied to the balding regions of your head to camouflage the exposed skin and make it appear as if the bald patch never existed.

Breathe new life into Thinning hair

If you’re suffering from diffuse thinning and your hair is so thin that you can see your scalp, SMP can be used to fill in the gaps and create the illusion of thicker, fuller hair. Pigment is strategically applied around and between existing hair strands to create the illusion of density. Our SMP procedure visually restores hair volume and density without touching existing hair.

Reconstruct Receding Hairlines

According to the Norwood Scale, a receding hairline is one of the first signs of male pattern baldness. Scalp Designs uses an 8-point symmetrical system to accurately reproduce any hairline for a more structured and attractive facial frame.

Add Density to hair transplants

Perhaps you’ve received a hair transplant and are unhappy with the lack of volume? Hair transplants are an excellent treatment for hair loss, however they’re not always reliable and it takes multiple sessions to reach a desired thickness. A combination of FUT and SMP is a great way to get the best of both density and texture for the most natural looking result.

“I’ve been losing hair for years. It is embarrassing and painful. I’ve tried rogaine, magic oils, pill, etc. I’ve tried toppers and they never worked for me (bought a crazy expensive custom one). I was considering trying a wig and even looked into hair Transplant.

I made the best discovery ever- smp! Soon after I made the second best discovery -John.

I was terrified to get this done because my worst nightmare was looking worse. I was also super uncomfortable because to me, addressing this issue was embarrassing and made me feel vulnerable (something I love)”

Schedule Your Long-Hair Scalp Micropigmentation Sessions

Like SMP for a shaved head, micropigmentation for long hair generally takes several 2-3 hour sessions until the desired density is achieved.

The number of sessions required to complete each client varies, though usually completed within 3-4 sessions. More sessions are required for women, between 4-6 sessions is generally needed to make a visible difference. Please allow at least one week between each session for your scalp to heal properly and for the ink to soften and settle on your skin. We use 100% organic charcoal ink for our SMP treatments which is then diluted to match your hair follicle and skin tone.

Preparing for Your SMP Procedure

Before you proceed with your SMP treatment, it’s important to be aware of all the risks involved.

First, you might be wondering whether you have to shave your head for the treatment. The good thing about our SMP treatment is that it’s also available for long hair. There’s no need to cut your hair because we work section by section to increase your hair’s visual density.

Another question you might have is whether SMP damages existing hair. Simply said, it won’t. The procedure is a cosmetic tattooing procedure that keeps your hair follicles safe. It doesn’t affect new hair regrowth.

Finally, you might want to know about how natural the end results look like. We’re careful with color matching our organic charcoal ink to match the shade of your existing hair follicle.

Take Note of Post-Treatment Care

Long hair scalp micropigmentation usually requires 2–4 sessions to achieve the desired density and blend naturally with your existing hair. There’s a one-week buffer between these sessions. Throughout your treatment period, please limit sun exposure and avoid washing your head for the first three to four days after each session. It’s also best for you to avoid swimming, going to sauna rooms, and doing intense, sweaty exercises in between treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SMP?

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is an innovative hair loss solution, similar to tattooing. It creates hair-like strokes in the scalp’s epidermis that mimic the appearance of hair follicles. SMP is designed to cover hair loss, bald spots, burns, and scars on the scalp. The process makes it look like you have a full head of hair.

How long does SMP take?

Our SMP procedure is divided into multiple sessions until you achieve the appearance of a full head of hair. Typically, you will have 3-4 weekly sessions, which are 2-3 hours long.

Does it hurt to get a scalp micropigmentation treatment?

Our non-surgical hair loss treatment works a lot like acupuncture and dry needling. It generally isn’t painful. But you may take paracetamol or ibuprofen for your peace of mind.

Are the results of SMP realistic?

Yes. We use 100% charcoal pigment to mimic your existing hair and to cover up scars or bald spots. Unlike traditional tattoos, you won’t see your scalp turning blue or green.

Is SMP permanent?

SMP is considered a permanent treatment, but depending on the chemicals you use when washing your hair, sun exposure, and skin type, the pigment may wear off within 4 to 6 years. You may need a touch up then, but generally, the pigment stays on your skin forever.

Will SMP damage my existing hair follicles?

No. Since we only use organic pigments, there will be no alteration or damage to the existing hair follicles. Also, our team of expert and professional SMP practitioners are skilled and trained to work only on the areas that need the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Unless you are allergic to charcoal pigments, scalp micropigmentation has no side effects. Prior to your appointment, we will ask you a couple of questions to make sure that the treatment is right for you.

What is the aftercare required?

During the first few days, you need to avoid certain activities like applying gel or creams to your scalp and avoid certain shampoos and conditioners. Treat the pigmented area like an open wound. You may also need to avoid certain activities that may make you sweat excessively. Don’t worry though, after your treatment, we will be giving you a list of do’s and dont’s.
